Global Ethics Day 2025: Ethics Re-envisioned

How should we think about ethics as a practical tool in today’s fractured global political environment? For the 12th annual Global Ethics Day, taking place October 15, 2025, the editors of Ethics & International Affairs invited brief essays for an online roundtable on this year’s theme of “Ethics Re-envisioned.” The essays below grapple with moral complexity, ethics in the classroom, immigration, war, and the history of global ethical thought. Each one, in its own way, suggests that active engagement, not apathy, is what is necessary to re-envision ethics in difficult times.
