Gareth Evans

Gareth Evans was Australia’s foreign minister from 1988 to 1996 and a cabinet minister in the Hawke-Keating Labor governments for thirteen years. He led the Brussels-based International Crisis Group from 2000 to 2009 and is now Chancellor and Honorary Professorial Fellow at the Australian National University. He has co-chaired major international commissions on mass atrocity crimes and nuclear weapons, has written or edited thirteen books, and has won many national and international awards for his pioneering work on the Responsibility to Protect concept and for his contributions to conflict prevention and resolution, arms control, and disarmament.
