David Scheffer

David Scheffer is the Mayer Brown/Robert A. Helman Professor of Law, and Director of the Center for International Human Rights at Northwestern University School of Law. He was senior adviser and counsel to the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Madeleine Albright, has sat on the Deputies Committee of the U.S. National Security Council (1993–1996), and was the first U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues. Currently he serves as the U.N. Secretary- General’s Special Expert on United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials. Scheffer was recently awarded a Berlin Prize fellowship, and is in residence at the American Academy in Berlin during the Fall 2013 term.
